PS6610 QAR Platform Hazelburn V8.x GUI Disks Tab Display Disk Orientation
Symptoms
Using the Group Manager GUI to view the disk layout of the PS6610 QAR the current layout doesn't follow past practices. Meaning the presentation from the Status tab\Inside view would and should be the same layout as viewing the Disks tab\Disk array Summary\Disk drive slots AND BOTH faithfully represent the physical layout in the array.
If the customer uses the Disks tab\Disk array Summary view say to identify the location of a specific disk in order to remove a failed drive they may take action with the wrong disk which then could cause an outage ending up in a DU situation.
For example, compare the PS6610 GUI display vs other EqualLogic arrays such as a PS6500
In the PS6500 Sumo GUI Disks tab\Disk Array Summary\Disk drive slots, disk 0 is located and displayed in the lower left with the left most column representing slots 0, 1, 2, 3. Looking at the Status tab and hovering over the Inside view the disks are displayed in the same manner. More importantly, this layout is what you would see when you view the drawer front he front of the array.
With the PS6610 QAR GUI Disks\Disk Array Summary\Disk drive slots view, disk slot 0 is shown at the top of the left most column. However, viewing the Status\Inside view the two drawers have a separation and hovering over the display notice that disk 0 is in the top drawer left most column bottom position 0 along with slot 4 and slot 28.
Resolution
Just make sure you and the customer understand the differences in what the tabs display and which one truely represents what you see when you view the physical drawer. Bug 75491 has been submitted as an enhancement change. Images of the GUI as explained in this article are attached.
