Compellent: Cross Platform Replication Storage Notification: Only One Path to Device Disk

Summary: Receiving alerts of "Only One Path to Device" for one or more disk indexes when using Cross Platform Replication.

Symptoms

When using Cross Platform Replication (SC array to PS array), there is the possibility of receiving alerts for having only one path to the device for one or multiple disk object indexes. Replication disk objects are created on the SC array for each cross-platform replication setup.

These alerts are viewable from Dell Storage Manager as follows:
In DSM Client > Storage Pane > Summary tab:

Client Alerts summary

In DSM Client > Alerts tab:

Client alerts

Cause

If there is only a single port on each SC controller being used for this replication, then alerts are generated indicating there is only one path to device for each disk object. If there are two ports from each SC controller being used for replication, then the alerts are not generated.

Resolution

The feature is working as designed and these alerts can be ignored if it is by choice to only use one port from each SC controller for Cross Platform Replication. In order to stop these alerts, another port from each SC controller must be added to the replication Fault Domain.
