Removal Instructions

Note: Using a large Phillips or flat-head screwdriver may result in damage to the head of the screws. This would make their removal impossible without specialty tools that are not available to our onsite engineers.

 

  1. Pre-removal instructions before removing the main access panel:

    1. During installation or removal of any hardware, always ensure that all data is backed up properly.

    2. Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer.

    3. Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets.

  2. Loosen the 10 captive screws that run around the edge of the cover.

Caution: Do not pull on the base cover from the top edge immediately after prying it open. You can damage the cover by doing this. Read the following steps in full before attempting them.
 
  1. Use a plastic scribe or some other probe that will not damage the plastics to [1] to pry up the base cover along the recess points inside the hinge indents, then pry along the edges between the cover and the chassis to separate the cover from the computer [2].

  1. Lift the base cover off of the computer.

  1. Pre-removal instructions before removing the SD memory card:

    1. During installation or removal of any hardware, always ensure that all data is backed up properly.

    2. Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer.

    3. Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets.

  2. Press and release the SD card in the slot for it to partially pop out of the side on your computer [1].

Removing the SD memory card

  1. Grip the card and pull it the rest of the way out of the slot [2].

 

  1. Pre-removal instructions before removing the coin-cell battery:

    1. During installation or removal of any hardware, always ensure that all data is backed up properly.

    2. Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer.

    3. Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets.

    4. Remove the System Cover.

  2. Disconnect the coin-cell battery cable from the motherboard on the left side of the computer battery [1].

  1. Peel the battery off the adhesive tape and remove it from the computer [2].

 

  1. Pre-removal instructions before removing the solid-state drive (SSD):

    1. During installation or removal of any hardware, always ensure that all data is backed up properly.

    2. Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer.

    3. Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets.

    4. Remove the System Cover.

  2. The SSD is located to the left of the system fan, peel off the metal foil [1] and the adhesive tape [2] that partially covers the SSD cover.

  1. Remove the screw that secures the left side of the SSD cover to the chassis [1] and lift the cover out of the computer [2].

  1. The SSD card pops up at an angle from the chassis, and you can pull it out of the connector and the computer.

  1. Pre-removal instructions before removing the SIM card:

    1. During installation or removal of any hardware, always ensure that all data is backed up properly.

    2. Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer.

    3. Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets.

  2. Straighten out a paperclip or use the SIM card removal tool to insert into the pinhole on the left side of the SIM card tray [1].

  3. The card tray should partially eject from the side of the computer [2].

Removing the SIM card

  1. Grip the tray and pull it the rest of the way out of the computer [3].

 

  1. Pre-removal instructions before removing the WLAN card (WiFi, wireless):

    1. During installation or removal of any hardware, always ensure that all data is backed up properly.

    2. Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer.

    3. Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets.

    4. Remove the System Cover.

  2. Partially peel the mylar sheet that covers the WLAN card below and to the left of the system fan [1], remove the single screw [2] that secures the WLAN card bracket to the chassis, and then remove the bracket from the computer [3].

Removing the WLAN

  1. Disconnect the antenna cables from the card [4] by lifting up the press stud connectors until they pop off and lift the card out of the connector [5] and the computer.

 

  1. Pre-removal instructions before removing the WWAN card (3G, cellular):

    1. During installation or removal of any hardware, always ensure that all data is backed up properly.

    2. Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer.

    3. Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets.

    4. Remove the System Cover.

  2. Remove the metal shield from the WWAN card which is to the right side of the coin-cell battery.

  1. Remove the single screw [1] that secures the WWAN card bracket to the chassis and remove the bracket from the computer [2].

  1. Disconnect the antenna cables from the card [3] by lifting up the press stud connectors until they pop off and lift the card out of the connector [4] and the computer.
