Symptoms

Unable to disable or remove IPV PXE choices within UEFI BIOS

Within a Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) with the UEFI Network Stack enabled. Both the Preboot Execution Environment (PXE) settings are available:

  • Internet Protocol version 4 (IPV4)
  • Internet Protocol version 6 (IPV6)

Removing and/or clearing one of these options in the BIOS causes them to re-appear each time the Power On Self-Test (POST) sequence is initialized.

Cause

The UEFI BIOS is working as designed.

Resolution

The BIOS is working as designed and shows the expected information in these conditions. Neither of the two IPV options can be permanently removed and/or disabled from the BIOS boot options. (Not when the UEFI network stack is enabled.)

By design each time the computer initiates the POST sequence, it re-populates the UEFI network stack and UEFI Bootstrap loaders such as Windows Boot Manager.
