Symptoms

A local agent on a backup server is failing to register with the DPA Application server

Within the Debug low dpaagent logs the following agent authentication error is seen:

<error> <id>Unauthorized request</id> <message>This request requires HTTP authentication</message> </error> ERR 31077.31077 20190507:095244 agent.config - initAgentConfig(): Failed to register agent with the server. Waiting to retry ... DBG1 31077.31077 20190507:095444 common.localdb.pstor - getPStoreVal(): reading pstore variable agent.registration.credentials DBG1 31077.31077 20190507:095444 common.localdb.pstor - getPStoreVal(): variable agent.registration.credentials does not exist

Cause

Removing or damaging the agent pfile (agent_config.db) located in the agent data folder can cause this issue as the hashed agent password is stored within this database.

Resolution

Reset the agent password for the agent via the command:

dpaagent --set-credentials -P <Password>

See KB 503652 (https://support.emc.com/kb/503652) for further information on setting agent password.
