Un comando TRIM, noto come TRIM nel set di comandi ATA e UNMAP nel set di comandi SCSI, consente a un sistema operativo di comunicare a un'unità a stato solido (SSD) quali blocchi di dati non sono più considerati in uso e possono essere cancellati internamente. Il trimming consente all'unità SSD di gestire in modo più efficiente la garbage collection, che altrimenti rallenterebbe le future operazioni di scrittura sui blocchi interessati.
TRIM per SSD è elencato come funzione della famiglia PERC. È stato segnalato che il TRIM è supportato solo in modalità HBA e non in modalità RAID.
A partire da gennaio 2017 gennaio, il supporto per il comando TRIM non è implementato nella maggior parte delle tecnologie RAID basate su hardware. Tuttavia, le implementazioni RAID software spesso includono il supporto per TRIM. Inoltre, la funzione TRIM è supportata solo sulle unità SSD pass-through.
