How to Create Alert Policies in OpenManage Enterprise

-
SMS Alerts

Alert Policies Troubleshooting - Email Alerts:
Step 1: Receive SNMP Trap from the device.
-
Check the Alert log - If no alerts check the iDRAC configuration
-
Use the Test Event option in the iDRAC to simulate an error
Step 2: Alert Policy Configuration
-
Under Category, select the All checkbox since often the customer is filtering out the alerts they wanted

-
Under Target, Ensure all devices you want email messages from are selected
-
Under Date & time, do not select anything at all. Often customers are set times here and if any alerts fall outside of that they get nothing

-
Under Severity, Warning and Critical should be fine
-
Under Action, fill out customer email details.
Step 3: Send Test trap from iDRAC again to verify functionality.
-
Check the Alert log again to verify it got to the appliance
-
Wait for email
-
If no email then we are talking Mail server configuration
-
Under Application Settings > Alerts > Email Configuration, check the email server configuration
-
Ensure that IP is correct, port is correct and credentials are correct. Click Authentication and SSL for testing.

Alert Policies Troubleshooting - Remote Scripts:
Purpose of Remote Scripts
-
To run a command in response to any SNMP trap
-
Run a script that opens up a ticket in response to SNMP traps
-
Can be a configuration trap, or an error
Step 1: Configure the wanted Script to run.

Configure under Application Settings > Script Execution
-
Select Create to open the wizard
-
Supports running a script from the share, a
racadmcommand, or anIPMIToolcommand
Racad option inserts racadm for you, so if you intend to run racadm getniccfg you have to type in getniccfg.
