Symptoms
Backups fail for VM hosts with error in the summary.
VMware admin sees the below symptoms:

- Admin cannot create a VM snapshot,
- Sees the error in tasks and events: A general system error occurred: Exceeded the maximum number of permitted snapshots.
Cause
The issue occurs when the number of snapshots are restricted for a VM by setting the value on snapshot.maxSnapshots parameter.
Resolution
The VMware administrator has to:

- Power down the virtual machine.
- Right-click the virtual machine in the Web Client and click Edit Settings.
- Click the VM Options tab, under Advanced, select the Edit Configuration option.
- Search for a string name called snapshot.maxSnapshots and increase its value.
- Click OK to save the changes.
- Power on the virtual machine and create the required snapshot.
