Symptoms

An error appears stating "Cannot change the browse time of a non-browsable save set" when attempting to change the "browse" time of a save set.

From the NetWorker Management Console (NMC):

From the command line on the NetWorker server:

[root@networker-mc]:~# nsrmm -S 4095671910 -e 05/05/2023 -w 05/05/2023
Cannot extend the browse time of non-browsable save set 4095671910

The save set is no longer "browsable" (cb); the save set is in "recoverable" (cr) state.

Cause

The browse time can only be modified on "browsable" (cb) save sets. Once a save set has transitioned to the "recoverable" (cr) state, the browse time cannot be modified.

Resolution

To modify the retention time of a "recoverable" (cr) save set, perform the following:

From the NetWorker Management Console:

  • Modify only the New retention time, but leave the New browse time field blank.

NOTE: If this save set has dependents with longer retention periods, the dependent save sets are not browsable after the 'retention policy' expiration date. To expire save sets, select one or multiple 'recoverable' save sets and set the retention time one minute into the future. Once the time has passed, you can run "nsrim -X" on the NetWorker server to expire the save sets. The save sets automatically expire the next time the NetWorker Server Protection job runs, and the expiration action completes.


From the Command Line:

  • Use "nsrmm -S SSID -e MM/DD/YYYTHH:mm" command to set the retention time
[root@networker-mc]:~# nsrmm -S 4095671910 -e 05/04/2023T18:00
If this saveset has dependents with longer retention periods, the dependent savesets will not be browsable after the retention policy expiration date `Thu May  4 06:00:00 2023'.
Are you sure you want to change the retention policy expiration of this saveset to `Thu May  4 06:00:00 2023'? (yes/no)  [no] yes
The retention time for the save set name 'index:096a876c-00000004-641dfbfa-641dfbf9-00d35000-0b83bb56' with save set ID '4095671910' has been changed to 'Thu May  4 06:00:00 2023'.
NOTE: Once the time has passed, you can run nsrim -X on the NetWorker server to expire the save sets. The save sets will automatically expire the next time the NetWorker Server Protection job runs, and the expiration action completes.

Additional Information

If save sets are still browsable (cb), you can change the browse time:

Or, you can use the Expire Now option:

You can also use the "-w" flag with "nsrmm" to change browse time of "browsable" (cb) save sets: 
nsrmm -S SSID -e MM/DD/YYYTHH:mm -w MM/DD/YYYTHH:mm
