PowerEdge: MX7000 fan warning after installing MX760c sleds

Symptoms

This is an example of the fan warning message, but it is seen on all fans included with the chassis.

Front fan 1 requires attention for optimal performance.
Desc: A device in the chassis requires a fan type that does not match the configuration of the fan identified in the message. Some devices may experience varied performance and possible thermal errors depending on the configuration, workload, and environment.
Action: Replace the fan with a Gen2 fan during the next scheduled service. Dell recommends as soon as possible for optimal performance. For more information about recommended fan configurations, see the MX7000 User's Guide available on the support site.

Cause

The thermal and power optimization requirements for an MX7000 with MX760C sleds that require optimized chassis were not checked prior to buying and installing the sleds.

Resolution

The following upgrades on the MX7000 chassis must be followed when installing MX760C sleds after point of sale:

  • MX7000 Gold grade (hardware version 2, Gen2) fans (customer kit PN: H2YC5/SKU: SKU 750-ADWN; included with MX solution orders with MX760c)
  • Open Manage Enterprise - Modular (OME-M) FW version 2.00.00
  • iDRAC version 05.10.25/ 06.10.05
  • Enterprise Infrastructure Planning ToolThis hyperlink is taking you to a website outside of Dell Technologies. (EIPT)
NOTE: When selecting or upgrading the system configuration, to ensure optimum power utilization, verify the system power consumption with the Enterprise Infrastructure Planning Tool available.

NOTE: To generate the thermally optimized sled-to-slot assignments, enter the MX configuration in the EIPT tool and click Optimize.
