Symptoms

Command symsg -sid XXX -sg SG_NAME reclaim fails with error:

Operation is not allowed while device is part of an RDF/Metro Configuration.

Cause

A device is part of a storage group and also in SRDF-Metro replication.

Reclaim operations cannot be performed if the device is part of any active session or replication process. See article: Solutions Enabler: Reclaim operation fails with error: "The requested feature is not supported for this microcode or SYMAPI version"

Resolution

Verify that the devices are not part of any active SRDF-Metro session using the below command:
symrdf -sid <> -rdfg <rdfgnumber> -sg <SgName> query
The only way to reclaim a volume that is part of an SRDF-Metro group is to remove it from replication by performing DELETEPAIR operation first, then perform a reclaim, and add it back to SRDF-Metro replication once the operation is completed.
