Avamar logs SUSEConnect error messages

Symptoms

Every day, the nodes get the following four messages in /var/log/messages 
May 14 09:46:24 avamar systemd[1]: Started Run SUSEConnect --keepalive.
May 15 09:46:23 avamar systemd[1]: Starting Run SUSEConnect --keepalive...
May 15 09:46:24 avamar SUSEConnect[13989]: The environment variable HTTP_PROXY is discouraged.  Use http_proxy.
May 15 09:46:24 avamar SUSEConnect[13989]: Error sending keepalive: System is not registered. Use the --regcode parameter to register it.
And this error in /data01/cur/err.log
2023/05/16-08:46:27.74973 {0.0} [log-messages:109]  ERROR: <0001> kernel error: May 16 09:46:24 avamar SUSEConnect[4584]: Error sending keepalive: System is not registered. Use the --regcode parameter to register it.

Cause

SUSEConnect is a tool to register SLES-based operating systems with SCC or RMT. Registered systems receive updates to installed packages, for example, to increase the security of the operating system. With SUSEConnect, a user can also register extensions and modules that extend the base system functionality.

SuseConnect was inadvertently enabled in the 2023R1/2023R2/2023R3 OS Security Rollup.

Resolution

1. Login as admin, promote to root with 

su -

2. Disable SUSEConnect on all nodes.

mapall --noerror --all+ --user=root 'systemctl disable --now suseconnect-keepalive.timer'
