Symptoms

After configuring a PowerStore appliance running operating system 3.5.0.1 for SMTP, the SMTP test is failing with the following error:

Failed Alert Notifier Email test, Reason: 'void com.sun.mail.util.TraceInputStream.(java.io.InputStream, com.sun.mail.util.MailLogger)' (0xE0F0101D000F) The system encountered unexpected backend errors. Please contact support. (0xE0101001000C)

After upgrading an appliance to PowerStoreOS 3.5.0.1, the SMTP email alerts stop working and the SMTP configuration test is unsuccessful.

A user configured SMTP and can connect to the SMTP server from the PowerStore on port 25, however, the test email is failing.

SMTP email alerts and the SMTP configuration test are unsuccessful.

SMTP email messages and configuration tests were successful on PowerStoreOS versions prior to 3.5.0.1.

Cause

The failed SMTP configuration test is due to an incorrect mail file being loaded during the SMTP process.

Resolution

Workaround:
If you have encountered this issue, contact Dell Technical Support and reference this article. A workaround can be implemented to ensure that the correct mail file is loaded during the SMTP process. The workaround does not persist after a Control Path (CP) restart or node reboot and must be performed again following either event.

Fix:
This issue is addressed in PowerStoreOS 3.6.
