Symptoms
Environment:
- Avamar 19.4 or higher
- Avamar and Data Domain configured for Data Domain Retention Lock
- Avamar replication configured
Events leading to the issue:
- All replications are up to date.
- A target Avamar server encounters an issue that requires a rollback.
- As designed, Avamar metadata is rolled back, but Data Domain does not do a rollback
- The target Avamar server looses a day worth of replications
- Avamar attempts to re-replicate the missing day, however these replications fail with the following errors:

Cause
Because there is a Retention Lock on Data Domain and Data Domain did not rollback as designed, Avamar is unable to re-replicate the missing data as the data already exist on the Data Domain and is unable to be removed or overwritten.
Resolution
Workaround:
Do not re-replicate the missing backups by modifying the replication group to only replicate X days worth of most recent backups.
Permanent fix:
Upgrade to Avamar 19.10 which allows the data to re-replicate with no error.
