Data Domain: How to check if a DLm is configured on a Data Domain

Summary: This article provides a quick check on the Data Domain to see if the Disk Library for Mainframes (DLm) is configured. From the Data Domain (DD) Command Line Interface (CLI) or ASUP output, perform a string search on 'dlmconfig' which is a decent DLm indicator. DLM PSNT and Serial number can possibly be found as well. ...

Instructions

During the initial DLm integration with Data Domain, a standard step is to create an NFS path that includes "dlmconfig" along with the DLM serial number.

Use a Data Domain ASUP or "nfs show clients" command output to determine if "dlmconfig" exists.
DLM models (example: DLm8500) having a dedicated Data Domain should have a variable "Vendor_SN" in the ASUP output that displays the serial numbers.

Dell Field Support is responsible for performing Data Domain Operating System (DDOS) upgrades in a DLm environment.

An approved CCA is needed for this upgrade activity. DLm and DD asset (SN#) information is required for this. This quick step is to find the serial number of the DLm.
Once the serial number is identified that value can be cross-referenced in AEON.

NOTE: Use any text editor to search for "dlmconfig" against a Data Domain Autosupport file.

EXAMPLE #1:
Using grep against ASUP Output file where the following DLMs [APM00190001111 & APM00190001112] are configured against the Data domain.
Using grep against ASUP Output file where the following DLMs [APM00190001111 & APM00190001112] are configured against the Data domain.

EXAMPLE #2:
Using the DDOS command: "nfs show clients”  In this case, APM00190001111 is the DLm configured for this DD.
Using the DDOS command: “nfs show clients”  In this case, APM00190001111 is the DLm configured for this DD.

EXAMPLE #3:
Using ASUP Output from a DLm Dedicated Data Domain, search for "VENDOR_SN" value.

Using ASUP Output from a DLm Dedicated Data Domain, search for “VENDOR_SN” value.
