VxRail: Vmware-updatemgr Service Does Not Start After vCenter Certificate is Replaced

Symptoms

When a user tries to run the following commands, the service does not start.
service-control --start --all

service-control --start vmware-updatemgr

vmware-updatemgr

Cause

Vmware-updatemgr still contained stale vCenter machine SSL certificate information which caused the mismatch issue

Resolution

Review the vum log:
/var/log/vmware/vmware-updatemgr/vum-server/vmware-vum-server.log
  1. Verify if the log shows the following error message: 
The remote host certificate has these problems

  1. Update certificate information according to VMware article Replacing vCenter Server certificates fails when VMware vCenter Update Manager service is enabled (2150895) This hyperlink is taking you to a website outside of Dell Technologies., take a vCenter snapshot before updating the certificate. 
    1. For vCenter 7.0.x or later:
cd /usr/lib/vmware-updatemgr/bin/ 
  1. Run the python script:
refreshCerts-utility.py

  1. Start "vmware-updatemgr"service: 
# service-control --start vmware-updatemgr
