Symptoms
In Unisphere for PowerMax 10.x managing a PowerMaxOS 10 (6079) Array, attempt to "Ping Remote IP" in RE IP Interfaces returns:
One or more IP addresses passed do not exist in the director emulation
An equivalent SYMCLI 10.x command:
symsan -sid <sid> -dir <dir> -port <port> ping -protocol rdf_gige -remote_ip_address <IPAddress>
Returns successfully, example:
Symmetrix ID : 000220000000 (Local) Director : 1C Port : 4 Local IP Address : nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn Remote IP Address : nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn P I N G S T A T U S Packet Size Time Status (bytes) (ms) ----------- -------- --------- 64 nn.n Success
The
symapi.log of the Unisphere for PMAX instance contains:
EMC:SMBASE verify_rmt_ip_ping_i Dir: <dir> Network ID -1 Protocol iSCSI : IP Interface does not exist in the director emulation.
The
smas.log of the Unisphere for PMAX instance contains:
WARN [em.bp.UTIL] (default task-566) SymapiCallTracer:InputArgs::SymRemoteIPPing failed with code 10838 (One or more IP addresses passed do not exist in the director emulation)

With the following listed if Server Logging of INFO is in place:
INFO [em.bp.UTIL] (default task-566) SymapiCallTracer:StackTrace::SymRemoteIPPing failed with code 10838 (One or more IP addresses passed do not exist in the director emulation)
The SRDF group(s) managed by the RE IP interfaces are functioning correctly and replicating without issue.
Cause
Unisphere for PowerMax 10.0.x is sending the incorrect protocol on the API request for the ping operation.
Resolution
This issue is resolved with Unisphere for PowerMAX Version 10.1.x.
As a workaround (with Unisphere for PowerMax 10.0.x versions) if confirmation of the "Ping Remote IP" function is required, use the following SYMCLI command:
symsan -sid <sid> -dir <dir> -port <port> ping -protocol rdf_gige -remote_ip_address <IPAddress>
