Symptoms
- NAS Server A in the Source array is registered to the ABC.com domain.
- A failover from Source array to DR array is needed.
- There is a trust relationship between the ABC.com domain on the Source array and the XYZ.com domain on the DR array.
- The expectation is that since there is a trust relationship between the domains the NAS Server and its associated shares will be accessible from the XYZ.com domain by the users who have permission to the respective trusted domains.
Cause
- The NAS Server shares will not be accessible from a different domain, even though there is a trust relationship between domains.
- Although the NAS server is pingable from another domain server, attempts to access the share will result in a prompt for a password. Entering the XYZ.com domain password will result in an inaccessible error.
- This is functioning as designed.
Resolution
This activity requires downtime as data will be unavailable during the changes.
When failing back from the DR array to the Source array, the same steps must be followed.
- Ensure the ABC.com and XYZ.com domain controller servers are reachable from the Dell Unity NAS Server (both Ping and Trace route is successful).
- Failover the NAS Server from Source array to the DR array using the failover with sync option. When complete, the NAS Server will show as degraded.
- In the NAS Server properties on both the Source and DR arrays, change the domain from ABC.com to XYZ.com.
- Remove the NAS server entry from the ABC.com domain controller under the EMC storage server folder in active directory.
- Once the NAS Server is registered to the XYZ.com domain the NAS server shares will be accessible.
When failing back from the DR array to the Source array, the same steps must be followed.
