PowerProtect: Cyber Recovery Reset Index Engines UI 'admin' password

Summary: This KB talks about two approaches to resetting the Index Engines 'admin' password.

Instructions

The first approach - If the user can log in to the Index Engines UI, they can reset the admin password by following the below steps. 
1. Log in to the Index Engines UI

2. Go to Administration > System > Users. It prompts for the current password and a new password.

3. Log in to the Index Engines UI using the new password. 


The second approach.
If the user is unable to log in to the Index Engines UI, they can still change the admin password by following the below steps.

1. Log in as root to the Index Engines server using SSH. 
2. On the command line, run iepasswd admin 

The new password must meet the following requirements: 

  • Be a minimum of 15 characters in length 
  • Contain a minimum of one uppercase letter 
  • Contain a minimum of one lowercase letter 
  • Contain a minimum of one digit 
  • Contain a minimum of one special character (!, @, #, $, %, etc.

Other requirements are:

  • When changing a password, the new password must have at least eight characters or 50% of the characters different than the previous password. 
  • Passwords expire after 60 days 
  • Passwords cannot be changed within 24 hours (1 day) of the previous change 
  • The new password cannot be the same as any of the previous five passwords
