OpenManage Enterprise: Update to Management Plugin Fails to Create Repository
Summary: Update Manager Plugin for OpenManage Enterprise may fail to create a repository based on the MX Stack catalog version 23.11.00 resulting in a job error.
Symptoms
Update Manager Plugin for OpenManage Enterprise may fail to create a repository based on the MX Stack catalog version 23.11.00 (November 2023) resulting in a job error.
This issue was addressed with in a newer MX Stack catalog 23.12.00 (December 2023) release. However, further attempts to create newer repositories linked to PowerEdge MX7000 devices may still fail until the older cached catalog is purged.
The following error may be seen in the Monitor > Jobs list after attempting to create an Update Management Plugin repository in OpenManage Enterprise based on an MX Stack catalog:
Job Type: UMP_Download_Task Status: Failed Details: Check log for more details Task failed: Completed with Errors
A repository may appear but contains no updateable components, and no matching baseline appears in OpenManage Enterprise’s Firmware Driver Compliance list under the Configuration menu. There is no baseline to run a compliance report against discovered PowerEdge MX7000 chassis components.
Cause
The MX Stack catalog 23.11.00 contained a metadata issue linking a minimum dependent firmware version required before upgrading certain PowerEdge MX7000 chassis I/O Modules. This is addressed with the release of the MX Stack catalog 23.12.00. However, creating new repositories with the newer MX Stack catalog may still fail because the older version 23.11.00 catalog is still cached in the OpenManage Enterprise database.
Resolution
- Uninstall the Update Management Plug-in, reboot the OpenManage Enterprise appliance, then reinstall the Update Management Plugin.
- Contact Dell Technical Support to confirm the issue, and request Field Service Debug (FSD) access from the technician. Make a snapshot of the appliance first, then access the OpenManage Enterprise shell. Enter the following command to remove the cached catalog directory:
rm -rf /var/cache/tomcat/temp/umptemp/ef445c39-62dc-4b51-b328-5e89d7a366aaq/Subsequent repositories created with the MX Stack catalog 23.12.00 (or later) should complete successfully and a new baseline be created.
