Symptoms

NetWorker Module for Database Applications (NMDA) Oracle RMAN backup failed 
The error generated is  
using target database control file instead of recovery catalog
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ==============
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-03009: failure of allocate command on CH1 channel at <date and time>
ORA-19554: error allocating device, device type: SBT_TAPE, device name:
ORA-27211: Failed to load Media Management Library

Cause

The NMDA library /usr/lib/libnsrora.so has a file size of zero.

Resolution

  • Reinstall the NMDA package on the Oracle client.
  • Retry the RMAN backup
