Konfigurasjon av GRE-tunneler:
  • GRE-tunneler konfigureres mellom to rutere for å sende og motta GRE-pakker direkte.
  • Konfigurasjon innebærer å sette opp tunnelgrensesnitt, spesifisere tunnelmodus, kilde og destinasjon.

Mulige problemer med feilkonfigurasjon 

Tunnel Flapping:
  • Feil KeepAlive-innstillinger kan føre til at tunnelen ofte går opp og ned, noe som fører til ustabilitet. 
MTU Mismatch:
  • GRE-tunneler over baner med forskjellige MTU-innstillinger kan forårsake pakkefragmentering eller tap. 
Ruting Loops:
  • Feilkonfigurert ruting kan føre til sløyfer og forårsake overdreven trafikk og potensielle nettverksbrudd. 

Beste framgangsmåte 

Konsekvente MTU-innstillinger:
  • Kontroller at MTU-innstillingene er konsekvente på tvers av GRE-tunnelen for å unngå fragmentering. 
Riktig KeepAlive-konfigurasjon:
  • Konfigurer KeepAlive-innstillinger for å overvåke tunneltilstanden og unngå unødvendig flapping. 
Tydelig dokumentasjon:
  • Oppretthold tydelig dokumentasjon av tunnelkonfigurasjoner og tilknyttede ruter for å forhindre feilkonfigurasjoner. 

Brukstilfeller for GRE-tunneler. 

Koble til eksterne steder:
  • GRE-tunneler kan koble avsidesliggende steder over Internett, noe som muliggjør sikker og effektiv kommunikasjon. 
Tunnelering av ikke-IP-trafikk:
  • GRE kan kapsle inn ikke-IP-trafikk, noe som gjør den allsidig for ulike nettverksprotokoller. 
Belastningsfordeling:
  • Bruk av ECMP med GRE-tunneler kan fordele trafikkbelastningen over flere baner, noe som forbedrer nettverksytelsen.

Tenk deg et nettverk med to eksterne steder, nettsted A og nettsted B, koblet over Internett. Hvert nettsted har en ruter med en GRE-tunnel konfigurert mellom dem.
