PowerEdge: BCM57608 Displays Warning Status for Transceiver Levels When Using DAC

Summary: When using the Broadcom BCM57608 with firmware 22.92.xx.xx, the iDRAC web user interface (UI) displays alarms indicating a warning status for receive (RX) input power. It also shows a critical status for transmit (TX) bias current. ...

Symptoms

The following details are displayed when viewing the transceiver information for the network card in the iDRAC web UI:

iDRAC RX and TX Errors for Transceiver

Cause

The iDRAC queries the transceiver properties, and the BCM57608 responds without verifying the cable type. Since a direct attach cable (DAC) does not provide sensor information, the BCM57608 attempts to supply data it lacks, resulting in warning and critical alerts.

Resolution

This is resolved in the Broadcom firmware 23.11.16.22.

The Broadcom BCM57608 now checks the cable type before responding. If it detects a cable that cannot provide the necessary information, it prevents the data from being displayed.
