Symptoms
- Memory used by nsrmmd binary for HP-UX, Solaris, and AIX Storage Nodes is not released after backup sessions
- Problem observed following upgrade to NetWorker 19.10 on the nodes
- Issue is only observed by clients set up with connection encrypted: Yes in their nsrla resource, when using nsrauth
- Disabling and re-enabling devices affected releases the memory by gracefully halting and restarting
Cause
Differences with OpenSSL 1.1.1 integration lead to the issue with UNIX operating systems still using OpenSSL 1.0.2. Linux and Windows are unaffected.
Resolution
The defect has been resolved, and the fix shall be available in the following versions:
- NetWorker 19.10.0.7 - due February 2025
- NetWorker 19.11.0.3 - due December 2024
Two workarounds can be used meanwhile:
- Disable connection encrypted for clients using the affected nodes. You may run the following command locally on each client, or provided the server has administrative access to the client's local agent database, by using the optional -s client_name argument run from the server:
- nsradmin -p nsrexec [-s client_name]
- nsradmin> . type: nsrla
- nsradmin> upd connection encrypted: Disabled
- Client services must be restarted to take affect.
- Alternately - Disable / Re-enable the affected devices while they are idle, on affected nodes. If there are multiple / many, Disabling the node itself and re-enabling will force a restart of all that node's devices. This latter option should only be done while the node has no active devices.
