VxRail: VxRail Licensing Requirements for 9.0 Update
Summary: VxRail license compliance prechecks before upgrading to 9.0.
Instructions
VMware perpetual licenses are not entitled to update to VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.0 or VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF) 9.0.
- VCF perpetual licenses are only entitled to update from the 5.x releases.
- vSphere and vSAN perpetual licenses are only entitled to update from the 8.x releases.
To upgrade your customer-managed VMware vCenter Server to 9.0, secure VMware vSphere 9.0 and VMware vSAN licenses for all connected VxRail clusters.
If customers want to access the 9.0 release, they must purchase a new VCF or VVF subscription offer.
Before updating the cluster to VCF 9.0 or VVF, customers first must confirm whether their current entitlements are compliant.
- All nodes in the cluster must be entitled with a VCF or VVF subscription offer before updating.
To identify if all nodes in the cluster are compliant, browse Broadcom's licensing portal.
Updating a noncompliant cluster could result in failure to update or require purchasing a new VCF or VVF subscription offer to replace the existing valid perpetual license post update. Once the cluster is successfully updated, it cannot be downgraded to the previous version.
