Symptoms

In certain scenarios, the PowerStore Automatic Download feature can leave software packages in the appliance that, over time, become stale and unnecessarily take up space on internal system directories used for appliance operations.

Upon encountering this, the PowerStore raises alert 0x03700103 "Stale Software Package Check"

Alert screen

Note:

  • The alert identifies the nodes with stale packages and also identifies the node from which the check was initiated.
  • This information is provided in the "Components" portion of the alert message:
Stale software packages detected. KB# 000370624. Components: (node_b: node_a )

In the example above, the check was initiated from Node B and Node A contains stale packages  If both Node A and Node B contain stale packages and the alert message would show as follows:

Stale software packages detected. KB# 000370624. Components: (node_b: node_b node_a)

Cause

When PowerStore downloads software packages using the Automatic Download feature, the files are temporarily stored in internal system directories.  Normally, after a successful download, these files are processed and removed.  However, issues like network disruptions can result in partial downloads, leaving incomplete files behind in these directories.
