Installing system board

Prerequisites

Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions.

Steps

  1. Unpack the replacement system board assembly.
    CAUTION: Do not lift the system board by holding a memory module, processor, or other components.
    CAUTION:Take care not to damage the system identification button while placing the system board into the system.
  2. Holding the system board holder and blue release pin, incline the system board, and lower the system board into the system.
  3. Slide the system board toward the back of the system until the release pin clicks into place.

Next steps

  1. Replace the following:
    1. Trusted Platform Module
      NOTE:The TPM plug-in module is attached to the system board and cannot be removed. A replacement TPM plug-in module will be provided for all system board replacements where a TPM plug-in module was installed.
    2. Mid drive tray (if applicable)
    3. Rear drive cage
    4. Integrated storage controller card
    5. Optional internal USB memory key (if applicable)
    6. Optional IDSDM or vFlash module
    7. Expansion cards and expansion card risers
    8. Processor and heat sink module
    9. Processor blank (if applicable)
    10. Memory modules and memory module blanks
    11. Network daughter card
    12. Cooling fan assembly
    13. Air shroud
    14. Power supply units
  2. Reconnect all cables to the system board.
    NOTE:Ensure that the cables inside the system are routed along the chassis wall and secured using the cable securing bracket.
  3. Follow the procedure listed in After working inside your system.
  4. Ensure that you:
    1. Use the Easy Restore feature to restore the Service Tag. For more information, see Restoring the Service Tag using Easy Restore.
    2. If the Service Tag is not backed up in the backup flash device, enter the Service Tag manually. For more information, see Entering the system Service Tag by using System Setup.
    3. Update the BIOS and iDRAC versions.
    4. Re-enable the Trusted Platform Module (TPM). For more information, see Upgrading the Trusted Platform Module.
  5. Import your new or existing iDRAC Enterprise license. For more information, see Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller User's Guide, at www.dell.com/poweredgemanuals.
