Removing the System-Fan Assembly

  1. Follow the procedures in Before Working Inside Your Computer .
  2. Remove:
    1. computer cover

    2. optical drive

    3. PCIe-card retention

    4. memory shroud

  3. Unthread the system-board cable from the clips.Figure displaying the removal of the system board cable from the latch.
  4. Remove the screw that secures metal plate to the system fan. Figure displaying the screw that holds the metal plate to the system fan.
  5. Press the latches on either side of the metal plate to release it. Figure displaying the latches on either side of the metal plate.
  6. Lift the metal plate out of the chassis.Figure displaying the lifting of the metal plate.
  7. Remove the screws that secure the drive bay.Figure displaying the removal of the screws securing the drive bay.
  8. Disconnect the system-fan cables from the system board. Figure displaying the disconnection of the system fan cables from the system board connectors.
  9. Perform the following steps as shown in the illustration:
    1. Remove the screws that secure system-fan assembly to the chassis [1].
    2. Lift the system-fan assembly from the chassis [2].

  10. Pry away the grommets to remove the system fans from the system-fan assembly. Figure displaying the removal of the grommets from the system fan assembly.
    • CAUTION: Using excessive force may damage the grommets.
  11. Remove the system fans from the system-fan assembly. Figure displaying the removal of the system fan from the system-fan assembly
