Configuring the TCX USB redirection for Smartcards

The smartcard management activities which can be done locally can be achieved after the Smartcard or eToken is redirected to the remote session, few examples of the smartcard management activities are stated below:

  • Initialize or Format Smartcard
  • Create Base CSP
  • Import or Export Certificate
  • Change pin/password of eToken/smartcard
  • Change Default Containers
  • Rename eToken/Smartcard

  • Microsoft RDP
  • Citrix ICA (XenApp and Xendesktop)
  • VMware View RDP
  • NOTE:
    • This feature cannot be used for Windows login when device is in Remote mode at the client. In this situation, it can be used only within the session. This is by TCX design.
    • In Terminal Server, Smart card devices are not shown in Device Manager when Session level restriction is enabled. When you disable the Session level restriction, device manager should be able to list the devices.
    • Session level restriction is supported only from Windows Server 2008 R2 or later.
    • Smartcard redirection is supported only from Window 7 or later as a back end (VDI or RDSH).
    • Session level restriction does not work on the applications which installs the virtual smart cards.
