Tomorrow, February 19, 2011, marks the second annual TEDx Austin event, where Dell will be showcasing its innovative bamboo product packaging. We’re even bringing live bamboo trees to the event for our bamboo experience display room! Be sure to tune into @CSRatDell as we live-tweet the event where you can see our bamboo packaging on display in a number of various mediums, for example, paper chips, pulp, packing materials and composted materials.
Not only does this green packaging material protect your Dell technology products as they safely arrive to you, but also we’re hoping this will raise awareness and support for sustainability product packaging throughout in the technology industry. Dell is hoping to force the hand of other technology companies to show their commitment to our environment like we are. Here’s a picture of the bamboo packaging we use to protect and ship our products to our customers.
Dell’s bamboo product packaging story continues to garner interest from customers and the news media. Dell has taken an innovative approach to harvesting and processing a natural material stronger than steel yet is organic, biodegradable and compostable. When surveying our customers about packaging a consistent response is that they’d like to see their systems delivered in sustainable packages. Bamboo is a grass, not a tree, and while many of us love trees, trees take decades to grow and must be replanted; whereas, Bamboo, grows incredibly fast and does not need replanting.
Take a look at the breakthrough ways in which Dell’s packaging team is testing new green materials and finding new ways to deliver sustainable packaging to our customers. Earlier this week, our green packaging team leader Oliver Campbell was interviewed [see video] by Fox News in Austin about the importance of product packaging and why Dell is so focused on the sustainability aspects of it.
Tomorrow, Campbell will be on stage sharing his story about the evolution of Dell’s green packaging story at the TEDx Austin event, which will be a great way for more people to learn about and perhaps deploy some creative sustainability solutions for their own businesses and organizations.
