Your Dell computer may experience performance-related issues. Performance issues can be caused due to software updates, corrupt apps or drivers, or a hardware failure. Some symptoms that indicate system performance issues are:

  • The computer is taking a longer time to boot into the operating system than before.
  • Applications are taking a longer time to load or respond.
  • The computer responds slowly or stops responding during user activity such as typing or clicking.

  1. Perform a hard reset. A hard reset helps drain static electricity that may cause power issues.

  2. Optimize the computer using SupportAssist. SupportAssist installs the latest drivers, removes temporary files and other nonessential clutter, optimizes Windows settings including startup files and optimizes network settings.

  3. Inspect and clean the air vents and fans. Blocked air vents can cause the computer to overheat and can impact the performance of the computer.

  4. Use Dell Power Manager to manage thermal performance (applicable for select Dell laptops).

  5. Run the SupportAssist diagnostics quick test on the computer. A hardware failure in devices such as system memory (RAM) or hard drive (HDD) can cause performance-related issues.
