Speed up your PC's boot time with these tips, including using the System Configuration app to manage startup apps and services. Learn how to disable unnecessary startup processes and optimize your system with Dell SupportAssist. Follow these steps to improve your computer's performance and efficiency.
Here are a few tips that will help your computer boot up faster. Use the System Configuration app to hand-pick startup apps and services. Click on the Windows Start button and type “msconfig” into the search bar. Open the System Configuration app. In the “General” tab, check the box next to “Selective startup” and uncheck “Load startup items”. Next, go into the “Services” tab and check the box next to “Hide all Microsoft services”. This will ensure you don’t disable any critical services the operating system needs to run.
Now, go through the list of services and uncheck any you consider unnecessary to load when your PC starts up. If there is a dedicated service that controls a hardware device that is connected to the system, stopping the service may impact its functionality. If none of the services listed are necessary, select “Disable all”. You can re-enable the services at any point later on. Then, go into the “Startup” tab and click on “Open Task Manager”.
Disable any apps you want to keep from running at the start. When finished, close Task Manager. Back in the “System Configuration” window, click “OK” to restart the system. Windows will boot without any third-party apps in the background. You can also optimize your system with Dell SupportAssist. Make sure to keep your computer connected to its power source throughout this process. Click on the Windows “Start” button to search for and open SupportAssist.
