Welcome to the Unity 15-Drive Disk Array Enclosure Link Control Card Replacement demonstration. For more detailed instructions always refer to the applicable procedure on support.emc.com. To begin we’re going to log in to Unisphere using the admin account.
As we can see on the Unity Dashboard in the System Health window there are no hardware issues reported. Let’s navigate to the System View and click the Enclosures tab and then select the DAE or Disk Array Enclosure. In this case there is one DAE on Bus one.
Shown here is the rear view of the 15-drive DAE. Let’s select LCC B on the top for more details. Although there are no errors or alerts shown here, we’re going to replace LCC B. To begin the replacement procedure, navigate to the System Service page and then select Service Tasks. In order to replace an LCC we must first put its associated storage processor in Service Mode.
Confirm that the Enter Service Mode button for SP B is highlighted, and then click execute. When prompted, enter the service password. Entering Service Mode stops IO on the SP so that the LCC can be safely replaced. Wait until the SP fault LED is flashing alternating amber and blue before continuing to the next task.
Here we can see that SP B is in Service Mode. Start by removing the SAS cable connected to the LCC by gently pulling the connector latches to release the cable from the connector. Turn the captive screws counterclockwise to release the LCC and remove it from its slot. You may need a screwdriver to loosen the thumb screws.
Gently insert the replacement LCC and secure it with the captive screws, being sure the LCC is completely seated in the enclosure. Replace the SAS cable. Let’s log back into Unisphere with the Admin account so that we can reboot SP B. Here on the Unisphere Dashboard we can see we have some hardware issues. These are expected errors. Let’s click on the hardware error to confirm.
Here we can see SP A and SP B are reporting errors. If we select SP A we can see that it is reporting that it is in an unsafe to remove condition. If we click SP B we can see that it is in Service Mode. Since these are both expected errors we can now go back to the Service Tasks page and reboot SP B. This action will reboot SP B into Normal Mode. Select Reboot for SP B and then click on Execute. When prompted, enter the service password.
It may take up to 20 minutes for the system to complete its reboot to return to normal. After approximately 20 minutes, log out and log back in to Unisphere to refresh the view. Let’s check the LCC status by navigating to the System View, clicking the Enclosures tab and selecting the DAE. We can see here now the LCC B is operating normally. This completes the Unity 15-drive DAE LCC replacement demonstration.
