Prerequisites
CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that are shipped with your product.
Removing the system board:
Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions section.
Follow the procedure listed in the Before working inside your system section:
Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals.
Disconnect the system from the electrical outlet and disconnect the peripherals.
If installed, remove the front bezel.
If applicable, remove the system from the rack.

Remove the system cover.
Remove the following:
Cooling shroud
Memory modules
Cooling fans
Power supply units
All expansion card risers and expansion cards
NOTE: The heat sink is hot to touch for some time after the system has been powered down. Ensure that you do not touch the heat sinks while removing the system board.
Heat sinks or heat sink blanks and processors or processor blanks
CAUTION: To prevent damage to the processor pins when replacing a faulty system board, ensure that you cover the processor socket with the processor protective cap.
Integrated storage controller card
Network daughter card
Internal dual SD module
Internal USB key (if installed)
Hot-swap hard drives
Hard drive backplane
CAUTION: To avoid damaging the mini SAS cable and connector, follow the correct procedure when removing the mini SAS cable from the system board.
Disconnect the mini SAS cable from the system board:
Push the mini SAS cable connector to slide it further into the connector on the system board.
Press down and hold the metal tab on the mini SAS cable connector.
Pull the mini SAS cable out of the connector on the system board.
Disconnect all other cables from the system board.
CAUTION: Do not to damage the system identification button while removing the system board from the chassis.
Grasp the system board holder, lift the blue release pin, slide the system board toward the front of the system, and lift the system board out of the chassis.
CAUTION: Do not lift the system board by holding a memory module, processor, or other components.
Installing the system board:
Unpack the new system board assembly.
CAUTION: Do not lift the system board by holding a memory module, processor, or other components.
CAUTION: Do not to damage the system identification button while placing the system board into the chassis.
Hold the touch points and lower the system board into the chassis.
Push the system board toward the back of the chassis until the board is seated correctly.
Install the Trusted Platform Module (TPM). For information about how to install TPM, see the Installing the Trusted Platform Module section.
Replace the following:
Cable retention bracket
PCIe card holder
Integrated storage controller card
Internal USB key (if installed)
Internal dual SD module
All expansion card risers
Heat sinks or heat sink blanks and processors or processor blanks
Memory modules and memory module blanks
Network daughter card
Cooling fan assembly
Cooling shroud
Power supply units
Reconnect all cables to the system board.
NOTE: Ensure that the cables inside the system are routed along the chassis wall and secured by using the cable securing bracket.
Follow the procedure listed in the After working inside your system section:
Install the system cover.
If applicable, install the system into the rack.
If removed, install the front bezel.
Reconnect the peripherals and connect the system to the electrical outlet.
Turn on the system, including any attached peripherals.
Import your new or existing iDRAC Enterprise license.
Ensure that you:
Use the Easy Restore feature to restore the Service Tag. For more information, see the Restoring the Service Tag by using the Easy Restore feature section.
If the Service Tag is not backed up in the backup flash device, enter the system service tag manually. For more information, see the Entering the system service tag section.
Update the BIOS and iDRAC versions.
Re-enable the Trusted Platform Module (TPM). For more information, see the Re-enabling the TPM for BitLocker users or Re-enabling the TPM for Intel TXT users section.
