Reference Dell Knowledge Base Article # 165845. This video describes the steps to be taken when you see the Event Notification: External Network Link Down - Event ID: 200020005.
This video presents: How to log in to the cluster and check for the event for "external link down". To check if the interface is actually down, or if it's up and active.
If the interface is up and active, then ignore and resolve the event. Checklist to be followed: Step One: Log in to the cluster. Step Two: Run the command shown to check for the event ID and copy the event ID.
Step Three: Run the command shown to check if the interface showing as down is actually down. Step Four: If the interface is not down but is up and active, then you can clear the event notification and then ignore, resolve the event.
Step Five: If the status of the interface is down/inactive/no carrier, then follow the steps given in the KB for further troubleshooting by raising a case with Isilon support. The following demonstration will show how you can ignore and resolve the event.
Open a CLI session to the cluster, and then log in as root. Run the command as shown: "isi event events list" to check for the event and the event ID.
To verify if the interface shown as down is actually down or up, please run the command as shown for the specific node by replacing the number after "-n".
Now you can see the interface's state, if it is down or up. If the interface is up and active, then you can ignore the event scene and resolve it using the command shown with the Event ID of the event to be ignored and resolved.
If the interface is in down or inactive state, then please open a case with Isilon support for further steps of troubleshooting as shown in the KB article.
