This video explains the three main security features in Windows 11, focusing on TPM, Windows Security, and Windows Hello. It demonstrates how to check and manage TPM, set up security options, and use biometric authentication for secure access.
Windows 11 offers three principal security features designed to protect you and your data from threats. The Trusted Platform Module, or TPM, is security technology integrated into computer mainboards that protects the system against software vulnerabilities. Windows 11 only runs on computers that have TPM.
To check for it on your system, click on the Windows “Start” button, type “Device Manager” into the search bar, and open the result. Expand “Security devices”. If you have the Trusted Platform Module 2.0, it will be shown here. Right-click on it and select “Properties”.
Go into the “Driver” tab to see if the driver needs an update. You should also make sure TPM is enabled. TPM is used for many important security features, including BitLocker Device Encryption, Data Execution Prevention, Windows Hello, and Secure Boot & Measured Boot.
To access Windows Security, click on the Windows “Start” button and type “Windows Security” into the search bar. Open the result. Once inside the app, some of the options you’ll find are “Virus & threat protection”, “Account protection”, “Firewall & network protection”, “App & browser control,” and “Device security”. Clicking on each will reveal details, options, and settings.
You can view security alerts, review the possible actions, and make changes to your device. Windows Hello provides a more secure way to get instant access to your Windows 11 device through pin, facial recognition, or fingerprint. To access it, click on the Windows “Start” button and type “Account protection” into the search bar. Open the result.
Click on “Manage sign-in options” to set up the biometrics. Recognition data from the camera and fingerprint reader is used to identify your unique traits, and is then encrypted and stored securely on your device for a more personal sign-in experience.
