Symptoms

Users must check if the LUNs are thin provisioned or not.

Using ESXi cli:

esxcli storage core device list -d naa.<wwn>

Attached Filters: VAAI_FILTER

This is regarding VAAI plug-in issue, Delete status is showing unsupported.

Cause

LUNs are thick provisioned.

 

Resolution

  1. Use the VMware Compatibility Guide to check if VAAI is supported for the Array model. It should be supported as the other VAAI features are shown as supported.

  2. According to EMC documents, the VAAI Dead space reclamation feature is supported only for Thin LUNs:
    "Unmap works with VMFS datastores provisioned using VNX thin LUNs."
