Instructions
An SCU is not an engineering-validated upgrade; Customers should understand its implications and risks.
Goal
Use the steps below to enable the SCU feature.
Facts:
-
For all versions that are lower than 4.6.2, an RPQ must be submitted to be able to use the SCU feature. An RPQ can be created by the Account or Sales team.
- For all versions that are lower than 4.6.2, the SCU feature must be enabled manually.
- For ESXi upgrades, the SCU feature requires PFMP version 4.6.1 or higher.
- For CloudLink upgrades, the upgrade can be performed only from the n-1 version, for example, upgrading from 6.9 to 7.0. To upgrade to a higher version, each version needs to be upgraded by n+1.
- Dell Technologies recommends the use of the SCU feature within the PFMP to perform component patch upgrades, when applicable.
- Dell Technologies recommends following the RCM or IC, even when SCU is enabled, as the officially tested code catalog; however, the customer can deviate as needed to align with security and or functionality requirements. Compatibility should be tested.
- The use of SCU enables the PFMP to remain in compliance, using the deviated code/firmware, which means future upgrades will not be blocked due to noncompliance.
- SCU is not meant to be used for full RCM or IC upgrades; it is component-specific in nature. As an example, to apply a security patch for one component type.
- Cross-verify all the components and their versions match the standard RCM version; if not, update the components to match the versions using the SCU feature.
NOTE: Dell only performs testing on released RCM or IC code catalogs. If an issue arises that is identified to be related to an RCM/IC deviation, you may be asked to modify the code or firmware in question.
Procedure
- Log in to one of the Management VMs (MVM) using any preferred terminal emulator and use the credentials used while deploying, or see LCS for the username.
- Enable the SCU feature by running the command below from the MVM node:
kubectl patch hr asmmanager -p '{"spec":{"values":{"appConfig": {"modify_compliance": "true"}}}}' -n powerflex --type=mergeNOTE: Allow for 3-4 minutes for the setting to take effect before trying to reload the PFMP UI. - Once the feature is enabled, the following KB provides the procedure on how to configure and use this feature: PowerFlex Management Platform - How to perform a Single Component Upgrade
