Symptoms

At first, received an error message
"The installed module Update-Manager 7.3.0.2 is not on a clean state and thus should not be used. It is very likely that the previous operation (installation or update) did not complete successfully. It is recommended to resolve this issue"

Once the Update-Manager is in clean state, the update-manager was still unable to removed, as it is required as is part of the update process script.

Cause

The issue was caused by two separate reasons:
1. Module Update-Manager 7.3.0.2 is not in a clean state.
2. When trying to remove update-manager manage-module remove update-manager 7.3 goes through the steps but never finishes or errors out because /opt/APG/Tools/Module-Manager/1.16.4/logs were full of large zip files and could not be cleaned up.

Resolution

1. To put the Update-Manager in clean state navigate in Putty other tool to, /opt/APG/Tools/Module-Manager/1.16.4/data/Update-Manager-7.3
     > Edit using VI the STATUS file. Change "DIRTY" to "INSTALLED". Save the file and confirm that this now shows the Update Manager into a clean state.

2. To resolve the removal issue with the Update-Manager.  Navigate to /opt/APG/Tools/Module-Manager/1.16.4/ and rename the logs/ directory.  Create new logs directory

  1. mv -f logs logsold
  2. mkdir logs
  • Remove update-manager with this command: manage-module remove update-manager 7.3
  • This will remove the Update-Manager module
