Dell EMC XC/XC Core: Booting to a Phoenix image fails with "error: file '/boot/kernel' not found"

Description

The Dell EMC XC Family of HCI products combines our PowerEdge servers with Nutanix software to provide enterprise-class solutions for all virtualized workloads. XC Series solutions have been deployed across almost every major vertical industry. Processor, memory and storage configurations can be tailored to meet the requirements of specific use cases.

Phoenix is an ISO-based installer that can be used to perform installation tasks on bare-metal hardware one node at a time. When booting to a Phoenix image, you may encounter the following error:

Solution

This issue occurs because Nutanix software only supports BIOS mode. To resolve the issue please follow the instructions below:

 

1. Verify in the BIOS, that the Boot Settings are set to "BIOS Mode" and not "UEFI".
2. If the hypervisor has already been installed, the hypervisor will need to be reinstalled after changing to BIOS mode.
3. Re-run Phoenix again.
