Symptoms

Upgrade failing at 10% with error:

Error: null Details: PartnerUpgradeActionDetail(action=Failed to upload bundle: D1JM1_VxRail-8.0.200-Composite-Upgrade-Slim-Package-for-7.0.x.zip., message= Please refer to KB000062924 article.)ERROR:PartnerUpgradeActionDetail(action=Failed to upload bundle: D1JM1_VxRail-8.0.200-Composite-Upgrade-Slim-Package-for-7.0.x.zip., message=Failed to upload bundle: D1JM1_VxRail-8.0.200-Composite-Upgrade-Slim-Package-for-7.0.x.zip: null. Cause

First cause:

  • Found issue on vCenter on the upgraded WLD domain.
  • vsphere-ui service was crashing due to not enough heap memory
    vsphere-ui crash
    java out of memory error
  • In the /var/log/vmware/vsphere-ui/logs/vsphere-ui-runtime.log.stout: 
    Dumping heap to /var/log/vmware/vsphere-ui/java_pid240884.hprof ...
Heap dump file created [968706533 bytes in 3.764 secs]
Terminating due to java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
  • Checking the heap memory for the vsphere ui using the below command: 
    cloudvm-ram-size -l
    Checking the heap memory

Second issue:

  • The disk group was missing for the first node in the cluster
  • Unable to add disk group due to first issue

 

Resolution

  • Increased heap memory to 2500 using below command: 
    cloudvm-ram-size -C 2048 vsphere-ui
  • After resolving the vCenter issue, added the missing disk group
  • Upgrade proceeded successfully
