Symptoms

RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines(VMs) installation fails at 53% with error:

Cause

The ESXi cluster is configured for updates as a Single Image(vLCM enabled), which is not supported with RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines(VMs).
RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines 6.0.x requires use of Baselines - Part of the older vSphere Update Manager(VUM).

Resolution

Workaround:
Recent RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines Deployment guides, page 23, explain how to deploy in vLCM environments.

Resolution:
Dell Technologies engineering is investigating a way to support Single Image ESXi clusters in the future. Contact the Dell Technologies Customer Support Center or your service representative for assistance and reference this solution ID.

Additional Information

To validate if the ESXi cluster is set up to use a Single Image - In vSphere user interface:

  1. Select the ESXi Cluster object
  2. Go to "Updates" tab on the right pane
  3. Click the Image section

For vLCM enabled (Single Image), it should show something similar to:

Hosts in this cluster are managed collectively. This image below will be applied to all hosts in this cluster.

For VUM(Baselines) Clusters, there should be a Baseline option above the image or instead of it.
