Dell Encryption EmAgent Install Results in an Error Window with text "1:"

Summary: Dell Encryption EmAgent Install Results in an Error Window with text "1:"

This article applies to This article does not apply to This article is not tied to any specific product. Not all product versions are identified in this article.

Symptoms

Affected Products:

  • Dell Encryption v10.2 and 10.2.1
  • Dell Endpoint Security Suite Enterprise v2.2.0 and 2.2.1

The default behavior is to block this type of deployment, and an error window is presented when installing EmAgent on an endpoint with Policy Based Encryption (aka Shield) already installed. The issue is that the error window is nondescriptive (that is 1:).

An error window is presented without descriptive text, when installing EmAgent in Full Disk Encryption mode on a device that already has Policy Based Encryption that is enabled.

This indicates that the installer has recognized that Policy Based Encryption exists on this endpoint and the default mode of blocking Full Disk Encryption from being installed on a Policy Based Encryption-enabled endpoint has occurred.

Cause

Not Applicable

Resolution

To install Full Disk Encryption along-side Policy Based Encryption, modify the command line to include the parameter:

"ENABLE_FDE_LM=1":

Example:

EmAgent_setup.exe /v"FEATURE=FDE ENABLE_FDE_LM=1"
