Instructions
From Avamar version 7.5, the "Usage Intelligence Report" feature has been available, which regularly reports the usage data to Dell Technologies.
The two key values are:
-
Front-End Capacity in Terabytes (FETB)
-
Back-End Capacity in Terabytes (BETB)
FETB: The capacity (in terabytes) that Avamar protects before deduplication.
- This is similar to the 'Bytes Protected' value, but it only calculates the backups for the past 60 days.
- It uses 'bytes scanned' in the activities table of the Management Console Server (MCS) database (MCDB) to calculate the size of each backup, then sums the maximum values of the clients, datasets, and plugins for the past 60 days.
Sometimes this number is higher than expected due to:
-
- The whole disk size of the Virtual Machine (VM) is used, despite whether or not thick provisioning is in force.
- The database in a cluster environment could be double counted if backed up by multiple clients.
- A NAS file system mounted and backed up using several clients could be counted repeatedly.
For more information about 'Bytes Protected', see Avamar: Understanding the "Data protected" value in Avamar Administrator.
BETB: The capacity (in terabytes) that is stored on an Avamar server after deduplication.
- This is calculated with the formula: 'Total capacity' * 'Server utilization'
(These two numbers can be found in the Avamar UI (Navigation -> Server -> Server Management)
Note: As the FETB and BETB are rounded down, if the value is less than 1 TB, it may show as 0TB.
