Symptoms

The admin account associated with the DHSM connections was changed.

Archived files for one particular filesystem show a grey X in explorer and cannot be read. These files reside on an Isilon.

Attempting to read one of these files logs the following on the VNX:

[nasadmin@xsbad10147 Contacts]$ file B-Cards\ Marubeni.PDF
B-Cards Marubeni.PDF: ERROR: cannot read `B-Cards Marubeni.PDF' (Input/output error)

2016-10-12 20:31:27: MGFS: 3: error direct read block 0 of entry 222637 fsid 3285, status 28 - InternalError

Cause

The non-working DHSM connection has same secondary storage path to the Isilon as the other working connections.
The non-working connection is using an old admin account which resulted in the Isilon returning "Invalid handle request" when any attempts to read files archived to it.

Non working connection:
[nasadmin@xsbad10147 Contacts]$ fs_dhsm -c CIFS_GSGST -i
CIFS_GSGST:
state = enabled
offline attr = on
popup timeout = 0
backup = passthrough
read policy override = none
log file = on
max log size = 10MB
cid = 0
type = CIFS
secondary = \\xsbad10141-2.example.com\sfbad18502\
state = enabled
read policy override = none
write policy = full
local_server = SFBAD18502.EXAMPLE.COM
admin = example.com\s_bad1_fmadm
wins =

Working Connection:
[nasadmin@xsbad10147 Contacts]$ fs_dhsm -c CIFS_T50_T3 -i
CIFS_GSGST:
state = enabled
offline attr = on
popup timeout = 0
backup = passthrough
read policy override = none
log file = on
max log size = 10MB
cid = 0
type = CIFS
secondary = \\xsbad10141-2.example.com\sfbad18502\
state = enabled
read policy override = none
write policy = full
local_server = SFBAD18502.EXAMPLE.COM
admin = example.com\s_bad1_fmadmin

Resolution

The Non - Working DHSM connection was deleted. If you receive an error when issuing the delete please contcat EMC support and reference this article.
The connection was recreated with the new admin account matching the other connections.
The datamover was rebooted.

Additional Information

The explanation states that most CIFS Servers assume that a client will always use the same user as the first connection. (The isilon must assume the same)
If the client (in this case the Data Mover) tries to use a different user while the first user is still connected the CIFS Server will deny access
