Symptoms

Zoning changes.

The following alert occurs when using CMCNE to modify the zones: 
Zone DB size and propagation overhead exceeds domain <x>'s maximum supported Zone DB size 1045274. Retry after reducing Zone DB size.
There are both department and director switches in the fabric.

Cause

The Fabric OS limits the zone database size to 1 MB in FOS 7.1 or later if the fabric contains one or more department switches.

Resolution

Delete unused zones to reduce the zone database size.

Additional Information

Limitation on zone database size:
  1. Since FOS 5.2, the zone database size limitation is 1 MB.
  2. When the fabric is mixed with FOS 7.x and older FOS earlier than 6.2.2d, 6.3.2a, or 6.4.1a, the cfgsave/cfgenable initialized by the old FOS would fail if the zone database size is larger than 128 KB. The cfgsave/cfgenable should be initialized on the switches with FOS 7.x.
  3. In FOS 7.0.x, the maximum zone database size supported is limited to 1 MB, even though the cfgsize CLI on some platforms (ED-DCX-B, ED-DCX-4S-B, ED-DCX8510-8B, ED-DCX8510-4B) shows the maximum zone database capacity to be 2 MB.
  4. Since FOS 7.1, Support for up to 2 MB zone database in a fabric with only ED-DCX-B, ED-DCX-4S-B, ED-DCX8510-8B, ED-DCX8510-4B systems. The presence of any other platform in the fabric limits the maximum zone database to 1 MB.
