NMM Active Directory GLR fails to Restore Attributes of multiple objects - due to domain migration
Summary: NetWorker Module for Microsoft (NMM) can perform Active Directory Granular restore of entire objects or item attributes. However, NMM Active Directory GLR fails to restore Item Attributes when 'sIDHistory' system attribute exists. This attribute exists due to domain migration. ...
Symptoms
NetWorker Module for Microsoft (NMM) can perform Active Directory Granular restore of entire objects or item attributes.
However, NMM Active Directory GLR fails to restore Item Attributes when 'sIDHistory' system attribute exists. This attribute exists due to domain migration.
You will see this type of error in nsradrecov.raw :
dchostname nsradrecov NSR info A failure occurred while recovering -I: (There is no such object on the server.) dchostname nsradrecov NSR info Failed to write property: 'sIDHistory'
Cause
NetWorker Module for Microsoft (NMM) can perform Active Directory Granular restore of AD objects or item attributes.
NMM can also restore item attributes of selected AD objects instead of restoring the entire objects.
Item Attribute restore can be performed for 1 or more than 1 object at a time.
However an issue occurs when 'sIDHistory' system attribute exists. This attribute only exists after objects in the current domain have been migrated from another domain.
In that scenario,
- NMM Active Directory GLR will fail to Restore Item Attributes of multiple objects when 'sIDHistory' system attribute exists.
- NMM Active Directory GLR will succeed to Restore Item Attributes of single object when 'sIDHistory' system attribute exists.
- However you cannot select the sIDHistory attribute as one of the item attributes to restore because it is a system-only attribute.
- NMM Object level restore (of entire objects from backup) continues to work un-affected.
Resolution
- NMM Active Directory GLR will succeed to Restore Item Attributes of single object when 'sIDHistory' system attribute exists.
- However you cannot select the sIDHistory attribute itself, as one of the item attributes to restore because it is a system-only attribute.
- NMM Object level restore (of entire objects from backup) will continue to work as usual.
