VPLEX: Log in to VPlexcli from VPLEX Management-server failed

Symptoms

Permissions on the password database may be too restrictive.

Log in to VPlexcli from VPLEX Management server failed with Permissions-on-the-password-database-may-be-too-restrictive error.

service@ManagementServer:~> vplexcli
Trying ::1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.


Enter User Name: service
Permissions on the password database may be too restrictive.
Login failed.
Enter User Name: 

Cause

Management Console issue. The Console must be restarted.

Resolution

Restart the VPLEX Management Console by using the following command: 

service@ManagementServer:~> sudo /etc/init.d/VPlexManagementConsole restart
Restarting EMC VPlex Management Console...               done


service@ManagementServer:~> vplexcli 
Trying ::1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.


Enter User Name: service
Password:

Additional Information

After restarting the VPLEX Management Console, the VPLEX CLI and UI require at least 1-2 minutes to run before logging back in.

Attempts to connect to VPlexcli immediately after restarting the VPLEX Management Console fail and possibly have false positives while the information is refreshed in the UI.

If a message is displayed stating that the process could not be gracefully stopped run the command to restart the console again.
