Symptoms

The following errors may be reported in the following /var/log/messages or /var/log/isi_ndmp_d log.

isilon-1 isi_ndmp_d[84408]: ERRO:NDMP comm.c:1626:ndmp_readit  DMA socket read error; bytes to read 4000 on socket 17 - Connection reset by peer
isilon-1 isi_ndmp_d[84409]: ERRO:NDMP comm.c:1626:ndmp_readit  DMA socket read error; bytes to read 4000 on socket 17 - Connection reset by peer
isilon-1 isi_ndmp_d[84914]: ERRO:NDMP comm.c:1626:ndmp_readit  DMA socket read error; bytes to read 4000 on socket 17 - Connection reset by peer

Cause

The event gets generated when one or both situations take place:
- The network connection between the PowerScale and DMA is unstable. 
- There is a misconfiguration on the DMA side.

Resolution

Have the end user perform the following tasks:
- Engage the network team to investigate network-related issues.
- Review the DMA configuration and correct any issues found.
- For further assistance, contact support.
