Symptoms

MaxDB was backed up using NetWorker
Restore of full DB backup.
Restore using  "dbmcli"  CLI or MaxDB studio fails.
MaxDB Recovery fails with error 
< encountered error -24920: The backup tool failed with 254 as sum of exit codes. The database request was canceled and ended with error -903 >

Cause

Pipe name used in restore operation was incorrect.
In max db 'dbm.ebl' can see 
<recover: Step (6 of 7) for PID-1260: Building the recovery tree of the client 'test-QA'.
16227:recover: /\\.\pipe\QA: not in index, deleted
16227:recover: /\\.\pipe\QA: not in index, deleted
16227:recover: /\\.\pipe\QA/: not in index, deleted
6469:recover: \\.\pipe\QA not in index
67847:recover: Failed to recover files: Nothing to recover
179069:recover: Step (6 of 7) for PID-1260: Unable to complete the recovery on the client 'test-QA'.>

Resolution

Max DB is backed up by NetWorker using a custom pipe name; For restore the pipe name should be same as used for backup.
